Pavel Dobrusky
Pavel Dobrusky was born, raised and educated in Prague, the Czech Republic.
Before his defection from the communistic regime in 1983, he had worked 8 years at the Scenography Departments of the Czech National Theater (Prague). The departments were headed by Josef Svoboda, the 20th century theater master that changed the world of the performing arts vision for ever.
The People's School of the Arts and the Theater Division of the Academy of Fine Arts provided Pavel's artistic educational background. His diploma from the Pripotocni School includes literature, languages, history and geography. Pavel has initiated, written, translated, produced, directed, and designed (sets, costumes, lights) theater projects both in the USA and European Union for companies such as the National Theatre of Norway, Dramaten in Stockholm, Stadsteatern in Goteborg, the Royal Theatre of Denmark, Deutsche Opera am Rhein, the Denver Center Theatre Company, Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis, Virginia Stage Company, Los Angeles Theatre Centre, Arena Stage in Washington, DC, Hopkins Centre at Dartmouth College, among many others.
Pavel has won critics' and audiences' awards for all of the above disciplines. His plays are published in English and German.
