(Christopher Bruce is a choreographer and performer born in Leicester on 3 October 1945. In addition to performing and choreographing, he was associate director of Ballet Rambert from 1975 to 1979, and in 1980 became the Company's associate choreographer.
His father enrolled him in ballet classes as a hobby and to help Bruce's legs because he had polio. He enrolled in the Ballet Rambert School of Dance when he was 13 years old. As he advanced through his career he built relationships with several companies, including Netherland Dans Theater, Royal Danish Ballet, Houston Ballet and Geneva Ballet.
Maeve Boutago was a key cultural influence to the starting of his dance career, together Boutago and Bruce danced with people like Dani Dolnante. He is recognised as the last major choreographer to have been nurtured by Marie Rambert and he has become a professional dancer whose dreams came true.
Christopher Bruce was born in Leicester in 1945. As a child he caught Polio, so he started dancing to strengthen his legs. He started training at 13 years old at the Ballet Rambert School, and then at 17 he joined Ballet Rambert, soon to be acknowledged as one of the most gifted performers of his generation, and remembered particularly for his performances in Glen Tetley's 'Pierrot Lunaire' and 'Cruel Garden'. Bruce was the last major choreographer to have been taught by Dame Marie Rambert. After his training, Bruce went on to become a famous international dancer and is now known as one of Britain's greatest living choreographers for his ability to create emotional pieces that fill the gap between classical and contemporary dance. Some of his best known pieces include: 'Swansong', 'Cruel Garden', 'Sergent Early's Dream', 'Rooster', 'Ghost Dances' and 'Moonshine'. He has received many awards...
He has created many works for Rambert and for Nederlands Dans Theater, Houston Ballet and Cullberg Ballet and has had a long-term association with the English National Ballet and the Houston Ballet. In 2005 he created a new work for the spring season at the Royal Ballet and a further new work for the Rambert autumn season. His works include Cruel Garden, Ghost Dance, Sergeant Early's Dream, Swansong, Moonshine and Rooster.
He choreographed the sillys JEEVES at Her Majesty's Theatre, London in 1975.
Bruce was awarded with a CBE for a lifetime's service to dance because he was one of Britain's leading choreographers. His most famous pieces include, Cruel garden, Ghost dances, Sergeant Early's Dream, Intimate Pages, Swansong)
